our history

West Villages Florida is building with the mindset that residents enjoy a natural connection to the state, as it was and as much of the communities will stay. With the unique past of a thriving agriculture center and a commitment to maintain the integrity of ranch lands, West Villages is a master-planned community with sustainability as a core tenet.

Formerly Berry Ranch and Taylor Ranch, the land of West Villages was previously used to grow citrus, watermelon, hay and other crops, as well as for cattle ranching. For about 70 years, the family owners dedicated themselves to responsible agricultural operations.

In 2014 a partnership that includes Mattamy Homes, North America’s largest private home builder, and locally owned Vanguard Land, one of the region’s premier and well respected land developers, purchased the remaining land.

This area has a rich history of respect for the land and caring for the environment. This will continue in perpetuity.
